Wakayama Prefecture, which is long in length, has a very different climates between Kihoku and Kinan. Kihoku belongs to the so-called Setouchi climate zone, which has long sunshine hours and low precipitation 4. In the whole prefecture, the number of farmers tends to decrease, but the number of full-time farmers is maintained. All of these are ranked first in Japan in terms of production volume. In particular, plums account for 65% of the national production, and the total amount of plum dried is the highest in Japan.
